Cultural and Environmental Values :
Dordonga is of cultural significance to the Taungurung peoples. Its Alpine and Subalpine landscapes house an extraordinary range of native plants and wildlife.
Protection: There are currently no specific protection areas identified. Climbers should demonstrate care and respect in any area they visit.
Climbing Impact Assessments: Mt Buffalo has a large number of climbing areas. While there are at least six areas that are very well frequented by climbers, there are many more that are used regularly. Assessments have been completed for several of the most popular areas, noting minor erosion and disturbance of vegetation on busy access tracks and belay areas.
Projects/Events: A couple of projects have been discussed with Parks Victoria staff and are currently being scoped:
- Repair and re-alignment of the climbers access track to the base of The Horn
- Rubbish removal from Glass Gully in The Gorge
