Black Hill

Climbing and bouldering on granite boulders

Crag Steward: Steven Wilson

Management: Black Hill Bushland Reserve is effectively managed by Macedon Ranges Shire Council, although a formal transfer of management from PV is still in progress. An Environmental Management Plan is available for this reserve.

Cultural and Environmental Values: Cultural heritage and values are acknowledged in the management plan. The parks ecology has been affected by surrounding agriculture, mining, timber harvesting and bushfires. The park is undergoing restorative works to enhance ecological values.

Protection:  There are currently no specific protection areas identified. Climbers should demonstrate care and respect in any area they visit.

Parking:

The main carpark is on the corner of Ennis Rd and Blackhill School Rd. The area is popular with local walkers, families and dog-walkers and the car park can often be congested. Please take care to park carefully, even if there aren’t many cars when you arrive.

Some climbers have parked by the side of the road at the end of Blackhill Rd at the south-eastern corner for the park. There is room for a few cars here if parked carefully, but be sure to leave access to both the farm gate and the park gate free.

Toilets:

There are no toilets in the reserve. There are several public toilets in Kyneton.

Climbing Impact Assessments: An assessment has been completed for the main climbing area “The Northern Group”, noting minor erosion issues and track spread in the most popular area.

Projects/Events:

A strong relationship has been developed with the MRSC and a number of working bees have been organised to address Scotch thistle and African Weed Orchid infestations.
